We are currently in the process of establishing a new Homestead called Silver Creek Farm. Over the coming years we will be sharing this adventure with our community in the form of writings, pictures and videos on YouTube.
In 2020 we will be starting building projects on a 40 acre piece of land north of Medford, Wisconsin. The first project will be to start construction on our home on the property from wood that was gathered and milled from the land. This building project will probably take 2 to 3 years to complete in order to avoid any loans or mortgages, which is preferable.
Our second project will be to establish large fenced in gardens and orchard that will help to support the Homestead with a produce income. During this time period we will be pursuing our certified organic status. This project from beginning to end will also take at least two years minimum to complete.
Our third project will be to introduce livestock onto the property as well as needed outbuildings for them. Currently the animals that we decided to have on the Homestead will be chickens, goats, sheep and pigs. This project from beginning to end will take an estimated 2 to 3 years to integrate into the farm.
It is our primary goal to raise all plants and animals in an organic and sustainable way maintaining a balance with nature. Also in the future we will be providing space for community members to come out and learn homesteading skills such as food preservation, foraging, organic gardening and animal husbandry.
