Well, I thought I would give everyone an update on what’s going on in my world. As the title of this suggests it involves carrots, beans, business and my baby girl. As a mother I have for many years multitasked all kinds of things together with my children. When I do this I think back to the days when women lived on the farm and were expected to keep the home and cook and care for a large brood of children all without any modern conveniences. As I think of this my mind begins to spin and I wonder how in the world they were capable of doing it.
I’m sure there were older kids looking after younger kids at a point, but before there were older kids there was a point when they were all little and she still had to keep the home clean and put three meals on the table a day along with whatever other chores she had to do around the farm. Even though I am considered by my partner Jeremiah Poncek to be an extremely ambitious person the thought of all of it still boggles my mind. This year I have managed to do what I have done due to a large contribution of time and energy by my loving partner Jeremiah. He is not doing these things for me, but with me and this way of doing things makes all the difference in the world.
As we finish up the last bit of canning, which includes carrots, beans, tomatillo verde sauce and finally jams and jellies I find myself looking back over how enormously productive we have been this year. We have really kept on top of things from the kids to canning to foraging to gardening and finally to winemaking and for me all through multiple injuries. Yes, you heard me right I am making wine, but that is another story that I will gladly tell later. Thinking about all this fills me with an immense sense of accomplishment and pride in myself, Jeremiah, our family and the home we have built together. As I sit here and think about how many people in the world live with a sense of unearned entitlement I realize that my world is full of plenty of bounty because I and my family are willing to put in the work.
The one thing I’ve learned over the years is that productivity breeds more productivity and this is what has happened to me this year. As I stated in a comment earlier I am reclaiming my life utterly and completely once again and that includes several business projects that need to be finished. I’m going to leave what they are for a later conversation, because I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Needless to say I am working on these business projects just as if I were going to work 40 hours a week or more for someone else. This year’s productivity has filled me with a passionate fire to finish these long-awaited goals. Over the winter I’m going to be cranking away on them and I have already managed to make substantial progress, which I am totally thrilled with. Well, I better get back to my multitasking especially since my daughter is taking her nap.
